As part of the International Biodiversity decade 2011-2020, India Post North Karnataka Region has released a set of 48 Picture Postcards titled Butterflies of India.

Picture Post Cards – Migratory Avifauna of Chilika

Large Egret:- Popularlrly known as Grey Heron, These are nomadic birds.
Whiskered Tern:- Blue rock pigeon. The commonest tern species seen in large flocks close to fishing nets and boats.
Brhminy Kite:- A common resident raptor fond more in numbers in Nalabana and Parikud of Chilka lakes.
White Billed Sea Eagle:-Black kite. Found mostly in Sea coasts, lagoons, estuaries.
Purple Moorhen:-Domestic hen. Habitat to large freshwater marshes and red beds around jheels.
Spotbilled Duck:- Domestic duck found in fresh water vegetation covered jheels, reservoirs and tanks.
Greater Flemingo:- Vulture, Migrant from Iran, Kazakhstan a common regular visitors during winter to Chilika.
Painted Stork:- Vulture, residents throughout the plains of India found in inland lakes, reservoirs, marshes and riverbanks.
