Lunar Eclipse:- On 10th December 2011, the last Total Lunar Eclipse of the year 2011 occurred and brought to light a spectacular view of the moon. This celestial event was clearly visible from India and Delhiites were lucky enough to get an opportunity to observe Moon in its different phases on this Full Moon night.

The complete sequence of the Lunar Eclipse which occurred on 10th December, 2011 from 1816 hrs. to 2148 hrs. The images taken  from from one of the observation locations at heritage sites in Delhi  Shanti Stupa during the Lunar Eclipse.

Olive ridley – named for its olive green colored shell, Head is quite small. Carapace is bony without ridges and has large scutes (scales) present. Carapace has 6 or more lateral scutes and is nearly circular and smooth. Its body is deeper than the very similar Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle. Both the front and rear flippers have 1 or 2 visible claws. There is sometimes an extra claw on the front flippers. Juveniles are charcoal grey in color, while adults are a dark grey green. Hatchlings are black when wet with greenish sides.

The olive ridley sea turtle nests at several sites in the western Indian Ocean, Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The single most important breeding area for olive ridleys in the Indian Ocean along the Bay of Bengal is Orissa.

Gharials were once widely distributed in the large rivers that flow in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. These include the Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra and the Mahanadi-Brahmani-Baitrani river systems of Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan.Today, their major population remain in three tributaries of the Ganges River: the Chambal and the Girwa Rivers in India, and the Rapti-Naryani River in Nepal. The gharial reserves of India are located in three States – Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
