Permanent Pictorial Cancellation – (6) – The College of Arts, Osmania University –  Andhra Pradesh – Special Covers

H.E.H. Nizam VII, laid the foundation stone for the Arts College building on 5th July, 1934 and it was declared open by him on 4th December 1939.

The building in Pinkish granite stone represents a harmonious blend of the pillar and lintel style of Ajanta and Ellora. The arches of the building are of Indo-Saracenic tradition. The building is one of the heritage structures in Hyderabad. The diamond jubilee of the college building was celebrated in December 1999.

The Osmania University is a public state university located in Hyderabad. It was established and named after the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. It is the first Indian university to have Urdu as a medium of instruction. The Osmania University is one of the largest university systems in the subcontinent with over 300,000 students on its campuses and affiliated colleges. It is particularly known for its faculty of Engineering and Technology, Law, Arts, Sciences, Commerce and Management departments. The College of Arts, one of the top 15 in the country, is an architectural heritage structure similar to College of Sultan Hassan in Cairo, Egypt.

The cancellation depicts :-The College of Arts.
