Postage Stamps – 100 Years of Indian Cinema

This issue will be released by Hon’ble President of India on 3rd May 2013 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.  However, it will be made available for sale to all  Philatelic Bureaux in the month of June 2013.

India Post will release 50 Stamps in the form of Miniature Sheets. There will be 6 different Miniature Sheets, 4 MS will have 8 stamps each and 2 MS will have 9 Stamps each.

Denomination of each stamp is 5/- and no separate Sheet Let/ Sheet is released. It will be like Philately Day MS and Mother Teressa MS where only MS is released.

Sufficient numbers of First Day Covers and Information Brochures will be available for sale with the stamps at the Philatelic Bureaux. As a special case cancellation will be made available for 6 months.

Quantity printed more than 8 Lakhs each MS.

The date from which these stamps will be available for sale at the  Philatelic Bureaux shall be intimated on India Post website in due course. Patrons are requested to kindly bear with this delay.

He is fondly referred to as Thennagathu James Bond or South Indian James Bond.Subramaniam Shankar, to give his original name, was born on 12 July 1938 with his father being a judicial magistrate. He was a typical Mylaporean of the bygone decades going to the famous PS High School and then Vivekananda College, where he did his Honours degree. Following the footsteps of his father he studied Law but gave it up after a year because of his interests in fine arts like theater.
