British Military Covers -Paquebot Covers- RFA Sir Percivale

British forces Postal service issued a cover on formation of 10 Ordnance Support Battalion of Royal Army Ordance Corps on 10 Jan 1972. This cover was mailed through various British Field Post Offices including the Ship RFA SIR PERCIVALE. The postmarks of British FPO’s and RFA SIR PERCIVALE can be seen on back of Cover.

RFA Sir Percivale is a Round Table Class Landing Ship Logistics which entered into service with British Army in 1968. It saw action in Falklands in 1982 , Gulf War in 1991  & Sierra  Leone in 200o  . It was decommissioned in 17 Dec 2004 and made its final voyage to be demolished on 13 Dec 2009.

The first cover posted at sea abroad MV ANNA MERYL was handed by ship’s master Capt Chriss Reynolds on arrival at Dutch Port. Postmarked Amsterdam 13/3/1999.

The second cover was posted abroad MV HOO Kestrel by Capt Reynolds on leaving aGerman port, was handed at Southampton where paquebot/ postmark was used 17/8/1999.

Some of the ships attending the International maritime festival at Bristol in 1996 , next visited the big event staged at Brest , France. This had become an annual get together.
The First Cover was posted abroad the sail training ship ETOILE BELLE POULE and has Brest Naval Base postmark dated 5 Sep 1996.

The Second Cover was  posted abroad Dutch sail training ship EENDRACHT, the city of Brest used a special postmark and the Paquebot which shows map references have been applied. Dated 13 Jul 1996
