Indian Naval Ship Godavari is a symbol of India’s Self Reliance in ship building, being the first major warship to be indigenously designed and constructed on 10th December 1983. This guided missile frigate has rendered 32 years of glorious service to the nation. She has shown the flag ‘far and wide’ having voyaged across the expanse of the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans (> 7 lakh nautical miles) during her life time.

Godavari has brought laurels to the service during numerous operations such as Operation Cactus in 1988 by thwarting a coup in Maldives, Operation Jupiter in 1989 by insertion of I.M.S.F commandos in Sri Lanka, Operations Shied and Bolster in 1989 by de-induction of Indian Army from Somalia and Patrol of Gulf operations in 2009 and 2011 and countering anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden.

The ship’s motto “Alert, Aware, Fearless” truly epitomizes her illustrious career in the Western Fleet and the Indian Navy.

The special cover issued on the occasion of the Decommissioning event features an image of the INS Godavari in action firing a missile, the 32 years of service logo. The special pictorial cancellation is a line image of the INS Godavari Logo and its motto. The stamp is of Valor and Sacrifice 1965 war issued in 2015.

Royal Mail Ship

Titanic was commemorated on 10 stamps with related images

The Titanic and Royal Mail are closely interlinked, as the ship was commissioned to carry mail and so the letters RMS (Royal Mail Ship) were used in the ship’s name.

On 10 April 1912, when the grand new White Star Line liner set sail from Southampton on its maiden voyage to New York with 2,223 people on board, travelling among them were two British postal workers together with three counterparts from the US Postal Service. There is evidence that they valiantly tried to save the mail when the Titanic collided with an iceberg four days later, but all five individuals were among the 1,522 people who perished when she sank.

The Commemorative Sheet, according to the info got by Stampnews.com, carries ten first-class stamps, each with the ‘crown seal’ Smiler® stamp and a label alongside featuring a variety of images of the Titanic story, such as her construction in the dockyards, the launch, the crew, White Star Line publicity, a The New York Times headline and the public enquiry that followed the disaster. The sheet background shows the White Star Line emblem at the top and a Titanic picture below the stamps.

This is a truly glorious commemorative collection and one to be treasured for years to come.
