Design – 16/25

During Jammu Stamp Show-2011, 25 designs of Buddhist Heritage Sites in J&K were introduced.

The Kushanas, who originally hailed from China, conquered the flourishing city of Taxila including the whole of the Gandhar region in the later period of the 4th century BCE and continued with their regime till 230 BCE. The Kushanas were liberal enough to encourage the Indian art along with the state religion Buddhism. In the ‘golden age’ of Taxila, Kushanas not only supported Buddhism but also built numerous temples and monasteries in and around Taxila. Unfortunately, the invasion of the Sassanian rulers on Gandhara though ended the Kushana’s rule in 230 BCE, but the later also protected Buddhism alike their predecessor till the invasion of the White Huns on Taxila in the 5th century CE, who plundered the city and destroyed the monasteries, temples and viharas of Taxila.

Stamps of India – Dev Narayan – By India Post

Shri Devnarayan , an ancient Gurjar warrior from Rajasthan who is believed to have been an incarnation of Lord Vishnu , is worshipped as a folk deity, mostly in Rajasthan and north-western Madhya Pradesh . According to tradition, he was born to Sri Savai Bhoj and Sadu mata Gurjari on the seventh day of the bright half (shukla saptami) of the month of Magh in the Hindu Calendar in Vikram Samvat 968 (911 AD). The epic of Devnarayan is one of the longest and most popular religious oral narratives of Rajasthan. The epic of Devnarayan has been classified under the category of martial epics. The principal shrine of Devnaryan is located at Sawai Bhoj near Asind town, the battlefield of Bagravat Bharat. Other significant shrines are at Demali, which is believed as the earliest shrine founded by Devnarayan himself and Malasari, where Devnarayan was born. Devnarayan is worshipped in these shrines in the form of an upright row of large sized bricks. The bricks are often kept bare, but sometimes the multi-colored tinsel is pasted over them.Another significant shrine of Devnarayan is located at Jodhpuriya near Mashi dam in Tonk district .

Kali is one of the most well-known and worshiped Hindu Goddesses. The name Kali is derived from the Hindu word that means “time”; it also means “black.” In Hinduism, Kali is a manifestation of the Divine Mother, which represents the female principle. Frequently, those not comprehending her many roles in life call Kali the goddess of destruction. She destroys only to recreate, and what she destroys is sin, ignorance, and decay. She is equated with the eternal night, is the transcendent power of time, and is the consort of the god Shiva. It is believed that it is Shiva who destroys the world, and Kali is the power or energy with which Shiva acts. Therefore, Kali is Shiva’s shakti, without which Shiva could not act. Kali receives her name because she devours kala (Time) and then resumes her own dark formlessness.

First Day Of Issue – Maha Shivaratri 2022 – By Nepal G.P.O.

Shiva rathri is one of the most auspicious vratas for the devotees of Lord shiva.

Sri Maha Shivaratri means “The Night of Shiva”. The ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This is a festival observed in honor of Lord Shiva. Shiva was married to Parvati on this day. This is the night when Shiva is said to have performed the Tandava or the dance of primordial creation, preservation and destruction.

People repeat the Panchakshara Mantra Om Namah Shivaya as it is said he who utters the Names of Shiva during Shivaratri, with perfect devotion and concentration, is freed from all sins. He reaches the abode of Shiva and lives there happily. He is liberated from the wheel of births and deaths. Many pilgrims flock to the places where there are Shiva temples.

The beautiful country of Nepal is a popular destination for tourists from all around the world. The two-day festival known as Krishnastami, which takes place during the month of August each year, is a festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna was born at midnight on the eighth day of the dark moon. For this reason the festival is also known as Janmastami, with the word Janma meaning birth, and Astami being the 8th day of the month. At midnight between the first and second days of the festival, the birth of Lord Krishna is re-enacted amidst much pomp and ceremony. Devotees chant prayers and small oil lamps are lit as a mark of devotion. In some cities images of Lord Krishna are carried through the streets accompanied by the sounds of musical instruments and joyous crowds.

It has already been proved that the evolution of Mother Worship in India begins from the age of the Indus Valley Civilization of Mohenjo -daro and Harappa and has continued to present. The two opposite forces of nature- the male and female are depicted by the Linga (the male symbol) and Yoni (the female symbol). This depictation of Shiva Shakti by the Linga- Yoni is a popular religious practice in Hindu socio religious culture.
