In the year 1881, a band of Englishmen founded the Madras Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Year after year, the society grew in strength and completed 125 years. Some of its activities are prosecuting offenders under P.C.A. Act, 1960, Birth control surgeries on street dogs, Free Veterinary Clinic, Health Camps for animals and accommodating pet animals when their owners are away from the city.

A Stamp and FDC issued on 16 Dec 1977 by erstwhile USSR on Siberian Tiger. This Tiger weighs upto 700 Pounds and measures upto 12 feet.

Malaysia issued a set of Four stamps  ( 20c ,30c.50c ,RM 1) on Clouded Leopard on 18 April 1995 . A FDC with four stamps is shown.  Clouded Leopard is one of the most beautiful Cats , having a coat of distinctive markings. It is the only big cat found in both Peninsular Malaysia and Island of Borneo . An adult of this species weighs between 11 Kg and 20 Kg.
