A rare 1787 Gold Brasher Doubloon has been sold for US 7.4 Million Dollars . Minted by Ephraim Brasher, a Goldsmith and Neighbour of George Washington the coin contains 26.66 grams of Gold.The brasher Doubloon is considered the First American made Gold Coin denominated in Dollars.

As per News reports in the Press The Indian Parliament has permitted the Government to mint coins of Rs 1000 denomination. The Coinage Bill 2009 was passed by Upper House Of Parliament on 11 Aug 2011 which will pave way for this.

A miniature  sheet was issued by Israel in 1973 with one stamp on coins . it also marked Jerusalem 73 International  Stamp Exhibition.

Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation New Series of Coins in the denomination of 50 Paise, One Rupee, Two Rupees , Five Rupees and Ten Rupees . These coins will carry New rupee Symbol. The Metallic Composition of these  coins will be

50 Paise – Ferritic Stainless steel (Iron 83% , Chromium 17% )       One Rupee –  Ferritic Stainless steel (Iron 83% , Chromium 17% )         Two Rupee – Ferritic Stainless steel (Iron 83% , Chromium 17% )
Five Rupee –  Nickel Brass ( Copper 75%, Zinc 20 % Nickel 5 %)     Ten Rupee- Cupro Nickel ( Copper 75% , Nickel 25 % )

The Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee released a new series of coins on 08 Jul 2011 with improved design and revised size in the denomination of 50 paise, Rs. 1, 2, 5, and 10. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mukherjee said that new coins will not only reduce the cost of moving materials but also are of user friendly size and weight. The present series of coins of 50 paise, Rs. 1, 2, and 5 contain a flowery design and for Rs.10, the number of petals have been brought down to 10 in place of the existing 15 petals. The parallel lines on the obverse side of the Rs. 10 coin have been removed and the size of Ashok Pillar has been increased. He said that security edging of new series of coins would be good for better recognition by visually challenged persons and will have improved counterfeit resistance.

A set of Two coins was released in 2009 to mark the Birth Centenary of Tamil Leader Anna Perarignar (1909-2009).

India Government Mint Kolkata issued a set of Three Coins (Rs 100 ,Rs 5 & Rs 2) to commemorate 19th Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi in Oct 2010. The Details of coins are

Rs 100 -Quaternary alloy (50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Zinc,5% Nickel)

Rs 5 – Nickel Brass (75% Copper,20% Zinc & 5% Nickel)

Rs 2 – Ferric stainless steel ( Iron 83% & Chromium 17% )
