MAHAPEX 2012  - The Maharahtra and Goa Circle State Level Philatelic Exhibition was held at Pune from 13 to 16 Jan 2012. Two covers were released everyday during the Four days of Exhibition.

1.Special Cover –Lavani Dance – By India Post

Lavani Dance  is a genre of music popular in Maharashtra. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particularly performed to the beats of Dholak, a percussion instrument. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm and erotic sentiment. Lavani has contributed substantially to the development of Marathi folk theatre. In Maharashtra and southern Madhya Pradesh, it is performed by the female performers wearing nine-yard longsaris. The songs are sung in a quick tempo.

2. Special Cover –Vasudeo – By India Post

Maharashtra has a lively tradition of song, dance, music and theatre. Vasudev, adance form, is performed by people believed to be  incarnation of Lord Krishna. Bedecked in the distinctive headgear of peacock feathers, performers sing Vasudev geets and with nimble, delicate dance steps, whirl around presenting anecdotes from Lord Krishna’s life in exchange for alms. Soothing, melodious notes float through the villages, particularly near Jalgaon and Dhule. On auspicious occasions like the birth of a child, dancersmight hold night- long performances called gondhals. Elsewhere, rustic actors could be narrating lively stories through the bharud, an enactment of the written musical compositions of poet- saints, and singers could be crooning powadas, inspiring ballads.

Monaco released a miniature sheet on 25th anniversary of Princesse Grace Foundation containing two stamps on Princesse Grace of Monaco (Grace Kelly ). She was a Girl Scout, A beautiful Hollywood actress and married the Prince of Monaco.

A set of Five stamps were issued by Great Britain to mark British Film Year . The Stamps show actors .

Jaishankar is a yesteryear star of Tamil Film Industry. He is fondly referred to as Thennagathu James Bond or South Indian James Bond.Subramaniam Shankar, to give his original name, was born on 12 July 1938 with his father being a judicial magistrate. He was a typical Mylaporean of the bygone decades going to the famous PS High School and then Vivekananda College, where he did his Honours degree. Following the footsteps of his father he studied Law but gave it up after a year because of his interests in fine arts like theater.

A Sheetlet of Madhubala in which shift in Perforation has resulted in nice errors on 08 stamps in the sheetlet. The affected areas are marked by arrows.

A Special cover was released 0n 15 Sep 1977 at Bangalore to Commemorate Exhibition on Cinematography held at Bangalore.

A Booklet issued by Australia in 1995 to commemorate Centenary Of Cinema. The Booklet  contains 10 self adhesive stamps . A set of Five stamps was issued . The Booklet was released during the Queensland Stamp and Coin Show held from 10 to 12 Jun 1995.

Three stamps were issued by Philippines to commemorate the Manila International Film Festival held from 18-29 Jan 1982.  The stamps on FDC  show the Views of Trophy and one stamp shows the Manila Film Center.

A Miniature sheet was issued in 1995 by Argentina to Commemorate 100 Years of Cinema. The MS contains six stamps of 75c each showing scenes from Movies.

A Booklet containing Eight Stamps was released on 01 April 1996 by Finland to 100 Years of Finnish Cinema . The Stamps depict the Film scenes of various Finnish Films through last 100 Years of Finnish Cinema. All stamps are of 2.80 Mk denomination.
