Vadodara has also become a cultural center of the Gujarat State due to the Gaikwad family, who were the rulers of Vadodara till 1947, the year of independence. The royal family has built many unique buildings and the tourist’s places here at Vadodara. One of such place built by them is Kirti Mandir, which is situated at the end of Vishwamitri Bridge, near to the famous statue of Maharaja Fatehsinhrao Gaikwad, who was the last ruler of the Vadodara State. Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad built this Kirti Mandir or the temple of fame in the year 1936 as a part of celebration of the diamond jubilee of the Baroda State in the memory of his ancestors. With a cluster of Shiva temples it was built to commemorate the cremation of the members of the Gaekwad family.
