FDC – GB – The Royal Welch Fusiliers – Victoria Cross
The Royal Welch Fusiliers was raised in Ludlow in 1689. A Special cover was released by British Forces Postal Service on 16 Mar 1989 to mark the Tercentenary of Raising.
Victoria Cross - Sergeant Luke O’ Connor was awarded the Victoria Cross at Battle of Alma in 1854 during the Crimean War. He rose to become a Major General and Colonel of the Regiment. The cover shows Sergeant Luke O’ Connor.
The Royal Welch Fusiliers were present in Lucknow in 1857.
