FDC – Britain -France Joint Issue – Channel Tunnel
The Channel Tunnel is a 50.5 KM undersea rail tunnel linking Folkestone, Kent near Dover in UK with Coquelles , Pas-de- Calais near Calais in Northern France beneath the English Channel at the Strait of Dover.
The tunnel carries the High Speed Eurostar passenger trains. It was opened in May 1994 by QE II and French President F Mitterrand. Approx 16.1 Million Passengers used this 2008.
France and UK brought out Joint Issue stamps to Commemorate this event on 03 May 1994. The FDC shows the French stamp cancelled at Coquelles and UK stamp cancelled at Folkestone. The Locomotives being used were Eurotunnel Class oo01, Class 0031 , Class 9.
