A Philatelic Tribute to Ashok Chakra Winners
India today celebrates 59th Anniversary of Republic Day. The Government announced the award of 11 Ashok Chakra Medals . Ashok Chakra is the Highest Peacetime Gallantry Award of Republic Of India . It is Awarded for most conspicuous bravery, or some act of daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously
The Award winners who will be honoured by The President of India on behalf of a grateful Nation on 26 January 2009 are

Apart from 2009 awardees a total of 41 Personnel have been awarded the Ashok Chakra from 1950 till 2008 which includes 37 Army Personnel , Two Air Force Personnel, One Police Personnel (Sh Randhir Prasad Verma ) and One Civilian (Neerja Bhanot ).
We Salute these Great Personnel , who in many cases made the Supreme sacrifices for our Well being and laid down their lives to protect their Countrymen.
